York and Exeter (1929) - the last British heavy cruisers
The York class heavy cruisers were in essence reduced "class B" cruisers compared to the County class, but better overall, and both were sunk during WW2.
naval-encyclopedia.comThe York-class cruisers were a British heavy cruiser design during the interwar period, meant to be a smaller, faster option to the County class, roughly 8,000 to 8,500 tons in displacement. Armament included six 8-inch guns, and could reach about 32-32.5 knots, propulsion used four boilers and four Parsons turbines. During service, the York-class cruisers carried out convoy escort missions, and various World War II operations, notably in the Mediterranean. One unit, HMS York was damaged by Italian explosive motorboats, which was salvaged and scrapped in 1952.
